Incentive Information
Is a Heat Pump Water Heater Right for You?

• Heat pump water heater technology is designed to pull warm air in and transfer it to the water stored in the tank. A byproduct of hot water production is cool air, thus a garage, basement, or other unconditioned space is an ideal installation location. Cool air can also be vented to outside your home.

• Most units require space around the water heater to allow effective air flow, but each manufacturer will have specific minimum requirements so please refer to manufacturer instructions.

• Heat pump water heaters have compressors and fans that run three to four hours each day with noise levels similar to that of a microwave.

• Heat pump water heaters have a filter that prevents dirt and dust from accumulating in the unit to ensure efficient operation. Thus the unit’s filter must be accessible for routine cleaning.
Eligibility
• Participant is an active Emerald PUD customer in an existing single-family or manufactured home served by a residential rate.
• Unit must be on the BPA Qualified Products List.
• The Heat Pump Water Heater must replace an electric storage water heater on a one-to-one basis.
• New construction is not eligible.
• A fully completed application must be submitted within 90 days of the date of purchase (as specified on your receipt/invoice).
• Qualifying customers can borrow up to $1,200 interest-free towards the completion of your project. Loan eligibility determined by Pacific Cascade Federal Credit Union. In cases where Emerald offers a 0% EPUD loan and rebate, the total amount borrowed cannot exceed the total project cost minus the cash rebate.
Requirements
• Participant authorizes Emerald to conduct quality inspections to ensure program specifications are followed.
• Participant is authorized to make home improvements.
• Equipment installed to manufacturer specifications. See incentive application for more information.
• Participant understands and accepts the unit’s maintenance requirements, safety instructions, and expected cooling effect and noise levels in the installation area.
Steps to Participate
We can help you identify savings opportunities, find retailers or contractors, and ensure compliance with program requirements.

1. Confirm eligibility for your program and determine if a heat pump water heater is right for you.
2. Contact a participating contractor or retailer to install or buy your qualifying unit. A list of participating contractors and retailers along with installation information can be found at hotwatersolutionsnw.org.

Time to Recycle your Fluorescent Light Bulbs?

Time to Recycle your Fluorescent Light Bulbs? logo
Lane County Waste Management, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and local electric utilities in the Eugene-Springfield community have teamed up to create a convenient residential recycling program for spent compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and linear fluorescent tubes (4-foot maximum on tubes).

Residential electric customers in Lane County can drop off compact fluorescents light bulbs and linear fluorescent tubes up to four feet in length at participating recycling center.

Commercial businesses should contact Lane County Waste Management at 541-682-4120.

Visit search.earth911.com for more information about recycling fluorescent lighting.
  • Why is it important to recycle your fluorescent bulbs?
  • Fluorescent bulbs contain an extremely small amount of mercury that helps the light glow. The amount of mercury is so small that it does not pose a health risk to your family. However, we are working to keep large accumulations of these bulbs out of the landfills and to reuse other materials found in the bulbs.
  • How to clean up broken fluorescent lamps
  • Fluorescent light bulbs contain a small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing. When a fluorescent bulb breaks in your home, some of this mercury is released as mercury vapor. To minimize exposure to mercury vapor, EPA recommends that residents follow cleanup and disposal steps.
  • Be certain to sweep up (don’t vacuum) all of the glass fragments and phosphor powder. Place the broken pieces in a plastic bag and wipe the area with a damp paper towel to pick up any stray shards of glass or fine particles. Put the used towel in the plastic bag as well. Air out the area where the bulb was broken. Take the broken bulb and clean up materials to a local fluorescent bulb recycling center.
